Skinny Pizza & Gelatissimo

This was not my first time to Skinny Pizza. Key and me had a very "interesting" memory when we talked about it. But we shall not disclosed the "interesting" part. *winks*

One thing I liked about Skinny Pizza is that it does not have a lot of crust in their pizza. I'm not a fan of carbohydrates but I do love pizza at times. So this is my ideal type of pizza!! One possible down side on super thin crust is that after one bite, the whole piece might just break apart.

I do find the range of the pizza in their menu interesting and different. But I was not in a mood of trying something too different, so we went with Wild Truffled Mushroom instead of like Chicken Satay…

Wild Truffled Mushroom ($26) - They gave a super generous serving of mushrooms in every piece. *likes* Plus I find that the truffled mushrooms pairs very nicely with the thin crusted pizza, which was another plus point too. Overall, I liked this pizza!

1/4 metre long sausages ($7) - we tried the spicy chicken and pork sausage. Sadly there is not much raving about the sausages as it was quite dry. The spicy chicken was tooooo spicy for me too.

[Key] - ABSOLUTELY NEVER EVER EVER TRY THESE!

Seared Brie Cheese ($8) - This is an awesome side! I have never tried anything like this before and I'm very tempted to try to cook it! The Brie went well with the sour sauce and there were pistachio nuts to add some crunchiness in your overall taste experience. It comes with toasted bread too, which you can match it with the Brie. I would order this again if I have a meal at Skinny Pizza again.

[Key] - awesome side! For cheese lover or anyone looking for a light bite!

After which we went to have ice cream at Gelatissimo! Because Key had a "once in a blue moon" craving for ice cream thanks to the super spicy chicken sausage. *note to remember to order another spicy chicken sausage next time at Skinny Pizza so I can have ice cream afterwards* hahahaha.

They do provide sampling for their ice cream so you can try it before you order!! I always feel that every ice cream place should provide such service so that you won't regret what you order! =)

Choc Truffle - I love dark chocolate so this was a nice version of it except in ice cream form. The dark chocolate wasn't very bitter and dry. I liked it!

Rum & Raisin - I love this flavor but I rarely found places that does this nicely~ My favorite place to get Rum & Raisin ice cream is at Anderson Ice Cream. I love the creaminess and the thick flavor of it. For Gelatissimo, I find that they did a nice version of it too! It was light but had a thick flavor of Rum & Raisin so you can just keep eating and not get tired of it! I would definitely order this again!

Yomenya Goemon

Had always wanted to try Yomenya Goemon as they have been around for quite some time but never went as I thought it should be a bit on the pricier side. But as we are unable to decided what to eat for our dinner, we decided to check it out. Never did I expect that the price is actually reasonable and with the promotion going on, it's definitely worth the money.

Our first time to Yomenya Goemon at the Citylink branch. Luckily for us, there was a current promotion for all Standard Chartered card holders. The regular set (included a soft drink, soup, salad and spaghetti) was $16 instead of $19.50!! =)

Mediterranean Tomato Cream Soup Spaghetti with Fresh Seafood (up $14.50)

The soup tasted like a bit like carbonara to me (less creamy) and has a slight tomato taste. There was a huge portion of spaghetti topped with cubes of sweet tomatoes, prawns, clams and mussels. 

Hokkaido Cheese Cream Soup Spaghetti with Scallop, Corn and Potato (up $14.50)

Key ordered this and I tried the soup. It was quite creamy and sweet. I preferred mine better!

[Key] - really like this spaghetti! the soup is creamy and cheesy, the ingredients are fresh and the noodles chewy!

The salad was refreshing and the soup was decent. We ordered orange juice and apple juice but sadly there were not freshly squeezed. Nevertheless, the orange juice taste very much like freshly squeezed ones with a hint of sweetness. I preferred it then to the apple juice.

Overall, a satisfactory meal and I can't wait to try out the other pasta!

Seoul Yummy

Whenever I passed by Seoul Yummy at Bugis+ I always seem to be finding a queue outside the restaurant. That made me curious about what they have to offer. Today as I walked passed the place at around 6 plus I saw just one couple queuing so we had to try it.

We had their "Amy Stew's Combo" which cost $49.90++.

Unlimited top up of sides - Overall the sides were refreshing though I had eaten nicer kimchi before. The tofu was super soft and I had problems picking it up with a chop stick. I don't really see peanuts as one of the sides for korean restaurants before, but this was a nice sweet addition.

Steamed pork dumpling - I personally would not order this next time. Don't really like the meaty taste of it and the dumplings skin was quite thick. Saw some people ordering the spicy rice cake and it looks not bad! will order it instead if I do come the restaurant again.

Amy stew (without beef) - Key does not eat beef so since we are sharing the stew and everything would be mixed together, it was better to order the stew without beef. There were chicken, pork, hotdog, luncheon meat, maggie noodles, rice cake etc. I wanted kimchi soup for it, but the waitress informed me that they only had spicy soup. Nevertheless, the waitress commented that I could just put kimchi sides in the stew for some kimchi flavouring. I added two bowls of kimchi sides in the stew. =p Overall, I liked the luncheon meat and the rice cake the best but I felt that given the price there should be more meat in the stew. Although we were very full after the meal however I find it a bit expensive.

Hot red bean soup with mo chi - Honestly, I'm not happy with this desert as the soup was diluted and the red bean was tasteless. The mo chi did not taste well with the soup too. Will not order this again.

Never a fan of Korean food but since Pat wanted to try it, I'm definitely supportive of it. The set meal actually is quite worth the money - huge portions and unlimited sides. Generally not too bad. For someone (me) who is not a fan of Korean food, I did enjoyed the meal a lot - the noodle is good, the rice cake is the best I have eaten so far, the sides is nice and even the rice is good. :)

Nam Nam

Finally we had the chance to try Nam Nam~! There always seems to be a long queue and it always seems super packed. So I very excited to try this out!

 

Fried prawns and pork roll ($4.90) - This was surprisingly nice! It wasn't oily and I love the sauce that came along with this. As like other fried food, this tasted awesome when it is hot. 

Pho Beef Combination ($9.90) - As this was my first time trying, I had to try the beef combination even though I was quite worried that I might not like all the variety involved (i.e beef steak slices, beef balls, beef shank, tendon, honeycomb tripe). 

I liked the soup, noodle, medium rare beef steak slices and beef balls. The rest I could finished it with the help of the awesome sauce from the fried prawns and pork rolls. 

Quang style egg noodle ($10.90) - This included fresh egg noodles, pork rib, prawn, squid ball, fish ball, rice cracker, chopped herbs.

Sadly, this was quite tasteless and we don't think we would order this again on our next visit.

Overall, I would still consider coming back to eat the Pho beef steak slice and of course the fried prawn and pork roll!

Poulet

Poulet Rosti (half chicken for $15.80) - The sauce was interesting while I felt that the chicken was normal and a bit dry.

Braise de Canard ($15.80) - The duck was soft but the sauce was a bit too strong for my liking.

Mushroom with egg - This was considered a main but it was an awesome pairing! The mushroom was tastefully done and the egg was quite well done with a yolky egg york. You could just mash the egg and mixed with the mushrooms. 

Tiramisu ($7.80) - Nothing fantastic and a bit too creamy for my liking. 

It will be a been there done that experience. I don't really think I'll come back to try the rest of the dishes.

Blackbird Cafe

After trying Blackbird Cafe's risotto, I have always seem to be craving for it when I'm tired or unwell because it seems to be comfort food to me.

Seafood risotto was awesome with generous serving of prawns and scallops. It could be a bit salty for some people's liking at first. I find that it is more tasty and consistent compared to their mushroom risotto (which is also nice when they do it well).

Beer Battered Fish n Chips - a very decent version of it that came in quite big portion. The fish was tasty but had minimal beer taste in it. Nevertheless, it is something that I would order from Blackbird Cafe if I'm craving for something fried.

[Key] - the fries are too much... that's the only downside.

Lychee drink - nice and refreshing with big lychee fruits inside. always loved lychee~

[Key] - very refreshing drink! I like it!

Key and me attended a cooking workshop at Cookyn Inc. before and I had enjoyed the whole process plus loved the food we cooked! Hence, when I found out that Cookyn Inc. had opened a restaurant I was very tempted to try it out!

The place is very relaxing and causal as it is situated in the middle of Bishan Park.

Grub cheeseburger ($13) - The cheeseburger was awesome! Made me rethink of ordering a cheeseburger from fast food places now. In fact, I haven't had any cheeseburger from any fast food places since I have eaten this. It was nicely seasoned and the patty was juicy. A sufficient serving for a me. 

Slow roasted pork belly ($15) - I'm not a fan of pork belly as it would be a waste for me cause I don't eat fats. I did try the meat and the mash potato though. The meat was a bit tough for my liking and the mash potato was decent. Nevertheless, Key thought it was done perfectly.

[Key] - I would not exactly say that it's perfect but they are able to retain the softness/tenderness of the meat inside while having a crispy outside. The sauce that goes with it is quite interesting. Overall it's not too bad.

Roasted Portobello ($10) - We wanted to order an appetiser to go with our mains. But looking at their list of appetisers, it doesn't seem to interest us much. So we order another main instead, but a light one. Anyway the price is somewhat similar. It came with two big portobello topped with rockets and cherry tomatoes salsa. It was good! I'm glad I ordered this instead of an appetiser. =)

[Key] - the rockets and cherry tomatoes salsa is great. This is actually a main but it definitely is much better served as an appetiser.

Churros ($8.5) - Their waffle machine was not working so we could not try their Belgium waffles!! Nevertheless, we need to fill our desert tummies. So we order Churros instead. I was quite apprehensive at first. Cause I'm quite particular with my Churros and I have eaten many that were not satisfactory. When the Churros came out, it seems passable. Overall, a very decent version and goes surprisingly well with the tangy creme anglaise instead of the dark chocolate. 

[Key] - Yes the Churros indeed goes much better with the creme anglaise. Not too sure if it's possible but perhaps try asking for just the creme anglaise.

Thatchers Pear Cider ($13) - We never had pear cider before so we thought of trying this out. It was surprisingly nice! A good pairing to wash the mains with, plus it had a slightly sweet touch to it.
