January Activity - Jogging

Key says

One of our new year resolution is to have a monthly activity that correspond to the alphabet of the month and for January, we have decided to go for a jog together as a "healthy" start! Though we do go to gym together before but this is the first time that we decided to jog side-by-side and so what better place to do so other than the East Coast Park.

We went there around the evening time and begin jogging from the bike rental area (near BK) towards area B and made an U-turn (perhaps) around carpark B1 and back to the bike rental area.  Not a very long distance covered but that inspired Pat to train up her stamina more, which is good! After that we walk to the East Coast Park Food Centre and ate our dinner before heading home.

This year we thought of doing something interesting to do as a new year resolution! As what Key said above.. for January we went jogging! It has been a while since we went to the beach, so I was super duper excited about the activity. Also, it was the first time that I ever jogged outside with Key!! (we once in a while do go gym together~). Hence, I was determined to try my very best to jog as long as I could.

Since I couldn't wake up very early in the morning to go jogging, we went in the evening instead. It was a nice and cooling weather to jog, even though there appears to be quite a number of people enjoying the beach as well.

We jog and jog and jog and it seems forever to reach the end of the beach! I was very surprised to see that the Mac Donald area was not around already and there were so many construction sites going on! My aim was actually to reach the end of the beach before I stop and walk back. Sadly, just a few small meters more, I was dying of breath and stopped at the bridge very very near to the end of the beach. Even though, I did not really hit my expectations BUT it was better than nothing and better than not trying. Next time if we do consider jogging at the beach again, I'll definitely jog till my goal and even further! =D

This first month activity was different and interesting and we learn something about each other. I can't wait for the next month activity! ^^

Club Street Social

Pat says

Situated along Club Street and Gemmill Lane, I almost missed this eatery as it was quite dark and the signboard was not very obvious.

When you look at the eatery from outside, it looks like a secret hideout place among empty buildings. But once I sat down, I was captivated by the interior design of the shop. I like the woody nature and the pub style. The music that they played was very relaxing.

Lobster bisque ($12) - Lobster bisque tends to be a bit salty compared to the other soup due to the ingredients involved. This was similar however it had a smooth texture and the seafood taste was not overpowering. There were also real lobster bits instead.

Wild mushroom and truffled aioli crostini ($10 for 3 pieces / $14 for 5 pieces) - Toasted and sliced baguette topped with flavored mushroom. The mayo in the center combined both the bread and the mushroom together. A decent appetizer! Though it looks small but I took 5 mouthfuls to finish one.

Linguine with prawns and coriander pesto (around $20) - The linguine was quite tangy with a sweet spicy sauce. It was nicely done for me, not too hard and not too soft. I would not say it was done al dente style though as it had a softer texture to it. I find the prawns a bit over cooked but it was decent. The red plum was an interesting addition and help you in finishing the meal if you get too overwhelmed by the constant taste of the dish. Overall, an unique pasta that I have not tried before.

Barramundi, harissa, brussel sprouts, smoked lardon ($26) - Quite succulent and juicy fish. The sauce had a very distinct Indian flavor to it. It was my first time trying brussel sprouts and I felt it tasted like small cabbages and was sweet and crunchy. This main was the highlight of the dinner.

Creme Brulee ($9) - This desert tasted more like custard to me. It was not very smooth and a bit clumpy. It does not taste like your regular creme brulee and I was a bit disappointed. The fruits served helped us finish this sweet desert. Perhaps it should be called custard bowl instead.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this place for chilling out with friends and love ones!! =D

Resolution 2014

Pat says

2013 has been an exciting year for us with new experiences and big decisions made. With the closing of 2013 and a new 2014 ahead, we have decided to make the following resolutions together for the new year!

1) Sleep before 12 midnight (at least 5 days a week)
2) Do an activity each month where the activity has to start with the first letter of the month (e.g for the month of January, the activity has to start with J)
3) Do more cooking (e.g friendly cooking challenge between us)

We didn't want to make too many resolutions and thought that these would be sufficient to cover the new year. =D

Key says

I have always been guilty of not having enough sleep (but who in Singapore isn't the same?) but perhaps it's time to change. So when Pat wanted us to have a common resolution, the first thing that came to my mind would be changing our sleeping habit.

Then came the part about common activities and do break the mundane movie/window shopping type of date, we have decided to do an activity that correspond to the first alphabet of the month. Last but not least, to find an activity that will add to our skill, we have decided on a cooking challenge. This would most probably occur only after we got our house and if our cooking skills improved, we might considered inviting friends to our house for dinner (as a form of gathering) and at the same time perhaps to judge our cooking!
